Metal Sculptor
I’m passionate about metal and what can be formed by it’s manipulation, either by heating, bending, blacksmithing or welding. My artworks vary from smaller works such as metal floral arrangements to larger outdoor sculptures, whether realistic or abstract shapes. I have an appreciation of the metal workers of yesteryear and what they could achieve without today’s technology. I enjoy time spent using a coke fired forge, hammer and anvil to create artworks or to make tooling or an unobtainable part needed for a machine repair.
I was born at Wallaroo and lived at Kadina but moved at a young age to Riverton in South Australia’s Mid North where I completed my schooling. I am now living at Salisbury East. I have a very understanding wife (shed widow), two adult children and two grandchildren (so far).
My love of creating and metalwork has led me from cutting up and welding together bicycles at a young age to make choppers and sidecars to pursuing a career in the metal industry. Having completed my schooling I did an apprenticeship as a Fitter and Machinist, a trade I am still employed in and have been a fully qualified tradesman for over thirty years now. I currently work full time as a Mechanical Maintenance Fitter at a large food processing factory but mostly enjoy the time I spend in the shed at home creating a legacy of artworks that will last for many years to come.
I think part of my passion to create metal artworks is in the knowledge that they are appreciated by others and that they will be treasured and enjoyed long after I’m gone.
